A new study implies that a bit of paper -- and the eagerness to use it -- might be what stands between you and a healthier weight. That's one conclusion from a dispatch by a bunch of scientists at Kaiser Permanente's Center for Health Research in Portland, Ore. The group hired 1685 men and girls, twenty-five and older, to take part. This study demonstrated that the majority can. By tracking how much food they ate, participators were much more likely to eat less -- a key step to losing pounds. Lots of folks will say, 'I was contemplating eating something or other, but I had no desire it on my food record ' Stevens recounted. That is what occurred to Julie Satterwhite, 46, of Portland. As a finance chief at the Housing Authority of Portland, Satterwhite spends hours daily in an inactive job. In spite of trying everything from the Atkins diet to Slim-Fast, Satterwhite declared that till the study, she atkins diet had not kept food or exercise records. I took the instructions to do that seriously, recording food 7 days every week, she claimed.

Her folks, including 4 kids seventeen to twenty-four, also inspired her efforts. But it was actually the concept atkins diet of having to record what she ate that truly helped Satterwhite applied the brakes on runaway eating. She lost thirty pounds in the 1st 4 months of the study, then outbuilding twenty-five more pounds after that. Whenever they'd talk about [keeping records] in the program, Satterwhite claimed, they might say, 'I hate them, but they work. '. After losing 55 pounds, Satterwhite stopped keeping track of what she ate. Satterwhite pays $55 for a year's membership, but there are other sites with calorie counters that will be accessed at no charge. The pounds are coming off, and Satterwhite in addition has found a compromise that she will live with. I keep recording what I eat for a minimum of many days every week, she claimed, to keep that awareness of what food I am eating and what not to eat. It's this sort of accountability that Stevens announces makes a difference in the longer term. We are inspiring folk to make comparatively modest changes, he claimed. They have to begin to eat in a way that they can maintain forever. Sally Squires is a writer for the Washington Post. We pay renters when they sign a new rental lease.
